Today is another beautiful day at the campsite. As Chancey, Myra and I sat around in the peace and quiet of the woods I noticed the beauty of the trees. One group of trees caught my attention (pictured). These two trees are completely different and yet their roots are growing together as they both thrive above ground. They look healthy and vibrant. Myra wondered how deep and intertwined their roots were, that made me wonder as well.
This made me think of two different ways we should
be rooted. First, as Christians we should be rooted in Christ. Look at Colossians 2:7, “Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”
Did you notice in the verse that the Apostle Paul is telling us that if we are rooted properly with Jesus that your faith would grow, and you would overflow with thankfulness. You and I will be healthier in this life if deep down our roots intertwine with God’s. Paul tells us in verse 6 that we just need to “follow” Jesus. You see, that’s all Jesus wants of you and me, for us to simply follow. How’s that working out for you?
Second, as Christian couples our roots should be intertwined with our spouse. Just like the trees in this picture they are two altogether different species of trees yet completely living healthy lives so close together. You and I probably know some couples who are not living very healthy lives being closely intertwined. Hopefully, you know couples who are living full healthy lives being rooted together with their spouses. Maybe, you’re one of them! In Mark 10 Jesus says, “God made them male and female from the beginning of creation. This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. Since they are no longer two but one”. Husbands and wives are meant to be complementary of one another, make each other stronger. The trees I mentioned are probably much stronger and would be more difficult to bring down since they are rooted with another. So are we!
My prayer for you is that you will become more rooted in Christ at the same time you become rooted with your spouse. If your single, I am praying that at the right time God will bring someone for your to be rooted with and strengthened by.
